JAMIE GARCIA
PERFORMANCE ARTIST Her work explores intimate and vulnerable topics usually related to her experiences as a Filipina American. Jamie's concepts often incorporate Philippine traditional instruments, sounds, and movements. Her style of movement can be described as pedestrian, heavily composed of impulsive and reactionary gestures. In her interactive and immersive performance art, she approaches the peculiar, embraces the uncomfortable, acknowledges the unseen, and challenges the conventional. Jamie produces passion projects through a movement collective she founded called The Wabi-Sabi Society.
DANCER Jamie has a background in modern, urban/hip hop, Filipino traditional dance, and ballroom, specifically Latin partner dancing (salsa, bachata, and zouk). She was fortunate to perform in prestigious locations such as Carnegie Hall and The White House. Prior to graduating from George Washington University in 2011, she studied modern dance and movement composition under Maida Withers.
